Berry Picking!

Blueberries for $1.79 a pound!

Raspberries for $1.99 a pound!

Our grand total for these? $7.08!

How happy it made these guys? Priceless.

SuperBoy's Quilt is Almost Finished!

I picked it up from the quilt shop earlier today!A close-up of the quilting. The thread is a variegated turquoise to lime green.
This picture shows the colors better, but they're still not quite right. I'll try agian later.

He and SuperGirl had to give it a test run earlier, and now I'm off to see if I have enough scraps from the quilt for the binding. Hopefully, SuperBoy lets me have it tonight, but more than likely, he'll want to sleep under it.

Who am I to say no to that?

Asking a favor. . .

I have an indentation in my upper left thigh. I call it a divet. It actually looks like I'm one swiss cake roll short in that thigh. Anywho, I noticed it about a month and a half ago while talking with some friends and running my hand down my thigh. Well, SuperBoy had a doctor's appointment last Monday, and on our way out, I asked the doc what he thought my divet might be. He had no clue, as I haven't had a shot there, had a bruise or any sort of trauma. So he scheduled me to see a specialist last Thursday. Long story short, he has no idea either. SO, doctor number 2 scheduled an MRI for me earlier today at 1:30. I won't find out the results until next week, I'm sure, but I wanted to put the favor out for positive thoughts and prayers.

Gracias

YUM! Summer is here!

We just cooked our first zucchini bread of the summer, and boy, is it yummocious! And just for good measure and to keep the family guessing, I threw in a handfull of blueberries to each loaf. The picture could be better, but I was trying to keep the surroundings out. Next time, I'll just leave them in, back up, and crop out the stuff I don't want. Right now, I'm too busy scarfing down blueberry-zucchini bread. Can you smell it where you are?

Angelina Apron. . .

When I got this fabric, I thought it was so hideous, it was lovely. Hence the name ~ Angelina. :) Wish me luck in selling this at the Farmer's Market that starts tomorrow.

Smores Brownies!

Someone on Pioneer Woman mentioned this recipe in the comments section of PW's Marguerites recipe and I have to share it. Doesn't it look divine? The full recipe is here, at Food Network dot com.

I'm gaining weight just looking at the recipes.

Yum!

SuperDad's Rescue. . .

He was raking the yard earlier today and raked over this little babe, realized what he saw and picked it up in his gloves. I went to get the ladder and we put it back with its momma. I hope it came out trying to fly, not during our storm yesterday. Either way, it's a wonder it survived.

Storm Residue. . .

I decided to go to the back yard and see what it looked like 18 hours later. I knew it would be soggy, especially since we had another good thunderstorm around 10:15 last night, but the kids and I braved the squishiness to see what we'll be cleaning up after while. Here is a path in our lower yard that the water took.

It went to this corner of the yard to make it's exit. Now it's actually kind of handy to know where the water flows when we have our heavy rains. Now I have an idea of where not to plant things.

On closer inspection, there's still a boatload of hail down there! 18 hours later?!? Wholly smokes, Batman!

A handfull of this exquistite hail, said tongue in cheek.

Looking more closely at the hail that washed into the corner, before going across our road, I found mounds of hail 8-10" high! I tried to put my shoe in a position to judge the depth, but it's near impossible in this picture. The kiddos and I dug down into the hail and had a few bites. Why not?

The positive? Our homes and people are safe. It could have been so much worse. Blessings and prayers going out to those in the Midwest and elsewhere that have had to endure this horrific weather season.

P.S. Our mama bird and babies appear to have survived the storm too. I can't imagine what she had to go through, likely sitting on her nest to protect her young. She's surely sore today. All the animals ourdoors, for that matter. Hopefully, many animals were not injured or lost. I just read on the newspaper website that 4 1/4" hail were just north of Ruckersville. I believe it.

Stay safe,
SuperMom

Storms We Received Today at 2:45 p.m.. . .

Gardens, trees, flowers, vehicles, dreams..........obliterated. The cleanup ahead just for this is unbelievable.

These were hostas. . . They still are, they're just not as voluptuous. Think Twiggy.

The dog's water dish full of hail.

Hail between the bushes and the front of the house.

Kids and I were in the basement due to the HIGH winds. Weather folks said they were 70 mph or so. ? SuperDad is on his way home, but the road is flooded in to our subdivision.

I need take-out service tonight.

More later.

P.S. And the stinkin' mailman just went by!!! What sadfhaskfjaslfg service!!!!!!

A Rescue of Sorts. . .

Look what we found walking all over a four-lane intersection on our way home from the grocery store today.
Yep. We loaded it up into SuperDad's truck (he took mine to work to save gas), brought the beast home and gave it food and water, which it wasn't interested in. That's good, it wasn't starving. I called the sheriff's office since the animal control is only open 3 days a week (???!) and said I had a dog. "A big white one?," they say. I felt like they were looking in on my life for a moment. Anywho, sorted it out, and they know where the dog lives, but it's people aren't home. The sheriff's office is suppose to call me when they contact the dog's peeps. I can't even tell if this dog is male or female, it's so stinking hairy. It has a beautiful pink collar on and lifts its leg to pee. You tell me.

Meanwhile, the kiddos are having fun with the big bundle of slobber. If I could get away with it and had clippers, I'd shave the pup. I can't imagine how hot it must be under all that hair. We could probably spin it and sell it at the Farmer's Market next week. :)

Have a great weekend, all!

UPDATE: Buddy, the 3 year-old Great Pyrenees, is home safe and sound with his family. Turns out, his family went away for the night and assumed he'd be fine. In all likelyhood, he would have been, had we not had some thunderstorms yesterday evening. Buddy is petrified of thumnderstorms and somehow escaped his fenced in yard, while his 3 schnauzer counterparts did not. He lives less than half a mile where he was found, in the intersection. I'm guessing he was just looking for his family after he freaked out during the storm. Thankfully, the family will be moving north to Culpeper to a 20 acre chunk of land. I'll pray he stays there and doesn't leave in a frenzy from a thunderstorm. Long live Buddy.

Inspired. . .

I came across this post today and felt compelled to share it with you. How many Harolds have we all passed in our lives?

Sort of, in an odd way, related. . . I heard George Foreman, of all people, say something so true today when speaking of his children. Love is spelled t.i.m.e. Children don't need fancy vacations and toys to feel loved, they need time with their parents, to bond and know they're valued. Uplift them every chance you get.

Happy Father's Day

Do You Have One of These?

If you don't know what this is, it's a Butter Bell butter crock. It keeps your butter at room temperature for up to 30 days. I've seen ones made out of pottery too, and they're really something to see. The ones mentioned above hold only 1 stick of butter at a time, but some others can hold two. I have to get one of these! Can't you just taste a warm piece of sourdough bread with smoothly spread butter on it? Yum!

Thank you for the inspiration, Rosa!

Finished My First Homemade Dress for SuperGirl. . .

It was a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. . .
Five or six rows of shirring at the top and 2 ruffles at the bottom.

I asked to see the back of the dress, and this is what she gave me. What are we in for here? Look familiar, Keely?

Yesterday Evening's Family Time. . .

We went to Shenandoah National Park yesterday evening for a cookout, look for deer and other animals and family time. We left during a thunderstorm at our house and thought we'd be fine on the mountain only 12 miles away. We were fine, as expected, for about 40 minutes, until another little storm popped up. We loaded up in record time, and travelled on to Big Meadows.

The family is looking at a doe bouncing away after we discovered her lying in the bush on the left-hand side of the picture. Here, she is just to the right of everyone. Boing, boing, boing. . .

After Big Meadows, it was time for Dark Hollow Falls. Here's a map.

Cool tree!

Do you folks like the new header, or should a picture of the kiddos be up there?

Stay cool wherever you are!
